Opishing has long been a favourite place to go for a picnic and fish below the falls. To get there follow Highway 101 about 50 km west of Timmins. It is just past the turn-off to Keefer Lake. As you approach the bridge there is a boat launching sign. Turn off here to the right, before the bridge, and park about halfway down to the lake. Walk towards the river and you will find a path that parallels the river. The rapids and water falls located here and on the other side of the river and are worth exploring.
To get to the other side of the river, go back to the highway and drive over the bridge. Take a quick right turn and follow the road down to the end. Park and explore the falls as it enters Opishing Lake. Look for the trail on this side of the river and explore the rapids above the falls.
For lunch, go back out to the highway and cross to the other side where there is a park with picnic tables. You will be able to explore the river here on the south side of the bridge also.
There is a 10 metre difference in elevation between Beaucage Lake to the south of the highway and Opishing Lake on the north. The difference in elevation creates a series of rapids and falls which makes for a very pleasant place to explore and spend some time.
