This is a pretty one-day or even half-day trip if you are in a hurry. Leave one vehicle at Singed Tree Lake on the other side of the river from Mooseland Resort. This is where you will be taking the canoes out.

The put-in point is relatively easy to find as there is a sign indicating White Duck Lake, and there is lots of room to park. Begin the trip by paddling across White Duck Lake. To do this you must pass under a railway bridge. At Keith Lake you can take a pass around a large island in the lake. Keep an eye out for a bald eagle stick nest on the far shore opposite the island. In early summer it is possible to see the young eaglets peering over the nest. Don't forget your binoculars.

Traveling up to Singed Tree Lake, you will pass under a second railway trestle. Once in this lake you can pass under a third railroad bridge. This one is like a hole in a stone wall. Slate Rock Lake is an ideal place for lunch and photography. It has several islands in it and could induce you to stay longer than you had planned.

To finish the trip, turn back to Singed Tree Lake and paddle up the lake to the highway. If you want to go further on the other side of the highway, you will end up in Scorch Lake, another enjoyable paddle that you might also choose to do another day.
