This is a beautiful trip but it is challenging in places so that it is not recommended for novice canoeists. There are rapids and waterfalls along the way. The part through Hanover Creek is especially challenging and should only be done at high water in late spring or early summer. Those who have done the trip have found the scenery spectacular but the portaging is extremely demanding.
This trip begins at the waterfront in Gogama or it could begin at a the Twin J Resort located on Minisinakwa Lake about 20 km northeast of Gogama on an arm of Mattagami Lake. The route is a loop beginning at the Noble River and following it upstream through Duckbreast Lake, Groves Lake, Hannover Lake and Londonderry Lake at the bottom of which it follows Hanover Creek. The latter has many portages and is a difficult passage even at high water. The route continues north following the Donnegana River and the Nabakwasi River to the southwest arm of Mattagami Lake. To return to Gogama, the route would follow the Minisinakwa River back into Minisinakwa Lake and on to Gogama.
Hanover Creek is best done early in the season when there is more water flowing.
