There are really two sections of the Bart Thompson Trail. The trail begins at the north end of Legion Drive in South Porcupine. It is found by turning north at the OPP station on Highway 101 and driving three blocks north. You can park your car at the end of Legion Drive and begin walk or biking.

Look for a rock outcrop on the left side of the trail about 0.5 km in. If you walk a short distance into the bush you will find a large area of bedrock which has been washed clean to show unique geological features.

About 0.9 km into the trail you will come out on the Davidson Road. From here you could turn south and return to the trailhead through streets in South Porcupine. To continue further along the Bart Thompson Trail, travel 0.3 km north on the Davidson Road. This brings you to the second section of the trail which travels east for 2.0 km coming out on Florence Street. At the present time there are some low lying areas which are quite muddy in the spring but are rather easy to walk around or bike through.

Crossing Florence Street brings you to the last section of the north trail which circles the Ontario Government Complex. Walking out the front driveway and crossing the highway will bring you to the end of the Bart Thompson Trail (north section). Should you wish to continue walking or biking, cross the highway and go toward the lake where you will find Bristol Road. You are now on the Porcupine Lake Section of the Bart Thompson Trail.
