This trail encircles Porcupine Lake. Most people know this as the Porcupine Lake Trail although officially it is part of the Bart Thompson Trail System. If you were to continue from the north section of Bart Thompson at the Ontario Government Complex, you would join the Porcupine Lake trail by walking south across the highway toward the lake until you meet Bristol Road. Turn right on Bristol Road and follow it all the way to Highway 101 at the traffic lights where you will turn left. Follow the sidewalk and turn left again about 200 metres further on to follow a road beside an open field down to the lake again. This trail takes you further around the lake and into the grounds of Northern College. If you take a left at the first T junction on this trail, you will again meet Porcupine Lake. The trail continues along the lake to the Waterfront Park in South Porcupine. As you travel north from Deadmans point you will leave the bush trail and come to Government Road which leads to Porcupine or Golden City as it was once known. Walk about 0.6 km along the road and turn left on Morgan Street which quickly turns into LoverÕs Lane. Follow this road to Haileybury Crescent and then down into Porcupine turning left at the bottom of the hill on Martin Street and then by Bannerman Park to the walk along the footpath over the Porcupine River Bridge and into Pottsville. Follow Bristol Road as described above to reach the Waterfront Park in South Porcupine. |
