How to get there:
From the Timmins Chamber of Commerce building, travel west on Highway 101for 1.2 km and turn right on Highway 655. Travel north 0.7 km and enter the parking area on the east side of the highway opposite the junction with Ross Ave. Leave your car here and walk across the highway and enter the trailhead about 50 metres west along Ross Avenue on the north side of the road.
The Scout Rock Trail was the first trail to be integrated into a residential area. The trailhead joins with the Gillies Lake Promenade and Golden Springs Trail at the corner of Highway 655 and Ross Avenue. In the winter, the trail is used by walkers and skiers. In the spring, summer and fall bicyclists and walkers frequent its pathways.
Starting at the trailhead off Ross Avenue East, the trail runs beside the District Hospital site and around the back of the parking lot where the namesake,Scout Rock,is located. From here the trail enters the forest and descends a steep hill where it merges with an old trail heading in a westerly direction. After approximately 300 metres, the trail swings to the north and passes through a marshy area full of marsh marigolds in the spring. This low lying area is the headwaters of Town Creek which flows down through the city. At this point in the trail, two bridges cross the wet areas on the way to higher ground. Several outcrops can be noted along this section of the path as the trail moves toward the MacLean Drive crossing. The next section of the trail follows a small valley referred to as the Melrose Ravine. With homes located on either side of the valley, the trails offer seclusion in a residential area of the city. From here the trail rises to cross College Street and its conclusion at Denise Park.
