The Gillies Lake Conservation Area is the location of the most popular walking trail in Timmins.
Thousands of people use the trail, and it is not uncommon to see someone out walking the trail at any time of the day or night during the summer. The trail is well lit at night and the time it takes for a brisk walk around the lake is just right for most people. Access to the trail can be from many points around the lake and there are two parking lots that may be used.
The main starting point is from the parking lot off Park Road north of Highway 101. Beginning from Schumacher, follow the Highway west for about 1.5 km and turn right on Park Road. Look for the parking lot on the right-hand side about one block north of the highway. A second access is from a parking lot on Highway 655. Follow Highway 101 for 1 km west of Schumacher and turn north on Highway 655. The lot is located 500 metres up the road on the left-hand side of the road.
