The trailhead for this walk is from the parking lot on Highway 655 across from the Ross Avenue intersection. This is an extensive trail system throughout the Hersey Lake Conservation Area. There are many branches to the trail which make every outing a new experience.
Heading north, walkers pass close to the regenerated tailings area of the old Hollinger Mine. Continuing on, the trail enters an area with gentle hills and jack pine, spruce and mixed forest. There are several intersections of the trail which are well marked and designated with names such as Kestrel Corners, Junco Junction and Jack Rabbit Circle.
In the summer there is good swimming at Hersey Lake which is the central hub of the trail system. A picnic area and shelter along with washroom facilities can be found here. The Hersey Lake trails are a favourite of bicyclists, walkers and joggers.
